September Tips: Planting Bulbs for Year-Round Colour

Beautiful Bulbs

Now’s the time to be thinking ahead about spring bulbs. October is the ideal month to start planting, but many suppliers tend to run low on stocks as the autumn goes on, so September is a good time to plan ahead for all year colour and get your order in.

We recommend J. Parker’s for ordering online – their availability is great, and website is easy to navigate with lots of tips and advice.

Snowdrops – These pretty white flowers are the first heralds of spring in many gardens, pushing their bowed heads through the leaf mould sometimes when the snow is still on the ground. If you have shady areas in your garden under trees or shrubs, snowdrops will thrive there.

Daffodils – Everybody loves a host of golden daffodils that flower from mid March. They like semi shade, and need at least a little sun.

Tulips – The beauty of tulips is in the huge range of colours available to buy. Go for a strong splash of red or yellow, or mix it up and go for one of the multi-colour varieties. Tulips like semi-shade, and will start to flower from May. They make beautiful cut flowers to bring that Spring colour indoors too.
